PHOTO ESSAY: Judiciary Committee Overrules Public Opposition, Passes SB 403 with Unanimous 'Yes' Vote
Despite two thirds of speakers appearing at the crack of dawn on April 25th to voice their opposition to SB 403, the anti-Hindu legislation passed in California's Senate Judiciary Committee
Sandeep said, "For you, honorable senators, it might just be another bill. For my IndianAmerican communityties — including Dalits — this bill is a weapon to butcher our cultural existence."
Rakhi Israni, who also testifed in opposition to SB 403, said, "SB 403 is an unconstitutional denial of my community's right to fairness and equal protection under the law. If this bill is adopted, Caste will be the only discrimination law category that is not facially neutral... this bill is facially discriminatory."
